After nearly 12 years I am finally happy to see a sequel to Monsters, Inc has been released! And boy was it ever exciting!
Plot: A look at the relationship between Mike and Sulley during their days at Monsters University — when they weren’t necessarily the best of friends.
A sequel to an animated film of Monster, Inc caliber could have been a disaster if done incorrectly, but thanks to Daniel Gerson, Robert L. Baird, and Dan Scanlon, the writers of the story/screenplay, the movie was not a disaster or nowhere even near a disappointment for me. The plot was well-developed with an wonderful story and well-written characters that kept me interested the entire time. The voice cast was sublime as usual for a Pixar movie, including many of the original cast (John Goodman, Steve Buscemi, Billy Crystal etc) but also had some newcomers to the film, including Charlie Day and Nathan Fillion. And of course, again as per usual with a Pixar film, the animation was breathtakingly gorgeous and well-rendered.
After nearly 12 years I am glad to say I’ve finally seen the Monsters, Inc sequel I have been waiting for. I’ve always dreamt of seeing the latest adventures or a prequel to the adventures of Mike and Sulley, and with warm, inviting humor, and a clever plot I am happy to report that this movie did not disappoint. While it may not be on the level of the first Monsters, Inc film yet, it is still a beautiful, fun, and friendly animated movie that will likely please even the toughest of Pixar fans.
My Rating: 9/10
